I know you came to this article because you have a Tata Nexon EV and want to maximize its range.
Don’t worry, I will help you!
I will explain how you can maximize the range of your Tata Nexon EV.
I will also share my own travel experience with the base model Tata Nexon EV. We managed to travel distances a little more than what the company claims.
So, without any delay, let’s get started!
What is the range of the Tata Nexon EV?
The company generally claims the Tata Nexon EV range is from up to 325 km for the base model to up to 465 km for the top model.
We charged the vehicle fully the night before our trip. The next morning, we started our journey from Nagpur to the Ajanta Caves, which is around 355 km away.
When we reached Ajanta, the battery was about 5%. The company claims the range for the base model is up to 325 km.
How did we manage to cover more distance than the company claims?
We used certain tips and techniques throughout the drive that helped us improve the range.
In this blog, I will explain these tips and techniques so you can also maximize the range of your Tata Nexon EV.
Tips to Maximize Tata Nexon EV’s Driving Range
1. Charge the Battery Fully
As earlier mentioned, we charged the vehicle fully the night before.
This helps us full battery advantage and ultimately the maximum range available for our journey.
Before going on a long trip or anywhere else, you should charge the battery full.
It will take a time of around 4.3 to 6h at 220V.
2. Drive Smoothly
Try to keep your car going at the same speed as much as you can.
On highways, you can use cruise control. This helps you avoid speeding up and slowing down too much.
In the city traffic, try to avoid stopping and starting a lot.
During our trip, my friend was in the driving seat. He made sure that wouldn’t apply sudden acceleration and braking.
To do this he used cruise control throughout the journey,
This helps us to save more energy and extend our driving range.
3. Use Eco Mode
When you put your car in Eco Mode, it changes how much power the engine uses.
So, the car feels a bit slower to respond, but it saves charging.
It’s useful when you’re driving in the city.
In Eco Mode, the air conditioning or heating doesn’t work effectively but it uses less charging.
This means you can drive longer without needing to stop for recharge.
I know when we reached to Amaravati, he switched to Eco mode in the city. This helps to save the charging of the battery.
4. Monitor Tyre Pressure
When a car’s tyres don’t have enough air, they make the motor work harder and use more energy because they create more resistance on the road.
So, make sure to check your tyre pressure regularly and fill them up to the right level.
After covering a distance of 200 km, we checked and filled the tyres air. I suggested filling the tyres with air pressure to about 34–36 PSI.
During the journey, we filled all four tyres to 35 PSI.
5. Minimize Use of Air Conditioning
All we know, a car’s AC uses so much charging of the battery. So you have to make sure that to use AC only when it’s most important.
Otherwise, try to void!
In the summer, it may be difficult but you can park your Nexon EV in a cool place like a shadow of trees or a shed.
We used a windshield sunshade to keep the interior cool.
Also, when we stopped at a Dhaba near the highway, we parked the car in the shade of a tree.
I know we only used the AC for 1 hour during the 5 hours of travelling.
6. Plan Your Route
We had two options to reach Ajanta caves: the Samrushi Highway and the route via Wardha-Yavatmal.
After the discussion, we decided to go via Samrushi Highway, which was the best option.
Because this route has few stops we could maintain steady speeds.
We planned our route carefully, choosing roads with less traffic and smoother surfaces.
This helped us maintain a steady speed and avoid unnecessary stops, which maximize our range.
7. Reduce Excess Weight
When you carry extra weight in your car, it creates a load on the motor, which isn’t great for efficiency.
So, before you go out, try to lighten your load by removing anything you don’t need for your trip or purpose you’re going.
And those roof racks and other accessories you attach to the outside of your car?
They can create more drag, so, when you’re not using them, take them off.
We removed any unnecessary items from the car to make it lighter.
8. Keep Software Updated
Don’t forget about software updates! Tata frequently releases updates that bring efficiency improvements by better managing the battery and motor, giving you more driving range.
Before a night, I called him and asked to update the software of his EV.
This helps the vehicle run more efficiently and can improve overall performance.
9. Do Regular Servicing
To keep your Tata Nexon EV running smoothly, it’s important to do proper maintenance.
Make sure to do servicing of your TATA Nexan EV regularly to keep everything working as it should, including the battery, motor, tyres, and brakes.
He loves his Tata Nexon EV like a daughter and he does service every three months to keep it in the best condition.
This maintenance helped him to improve the driving range of his Tata Nexon EV.
Final Thoughts
So, there you have it! These tips can help you go further with your Tata Nexon EV without worrying about its range.
Just remember to follow the above steps.
By following these tips, we managed to travel from Nagpur to the Ajanta Caves, a distance of around 355 km.
These techniques can help you maximize the range of your Tata Nexon EV too!
