My friend purchased a Revolt RV400 electric bike six months ago. One day, during a weekend outing, we were outside, and his RV400 wouldn’t start.
We both were confused and trying to figure out what went wrong. Luckily, after a call to Revolt customer care, we realised that this is a common issue with a few simple fixes.
In this blog, I’ll share the tips that helped us that day. If your Revolt RV400 isn’t starting, this guide will help you to know the reasons and how you can fix them.
By the end, you can fix the issues on your own, so you won’t need to panic in that situation. So, let’s start the guide.
Common Reasons for Starting Issues
When we spoke to Revolt’s customer care, he said that there are three common reasons why the RV400 doesn’t start:
👉 Battery Problems
👉 Immobilizer Fault
👉 Electrical Connections
Let me explain how we checked and solved each of these issues on our own.
1. Check the Battery Health
The first thing we checked was the battery, which makes sense because it’s important for any electric bike starting issue.
My friend tried turning on the display, but it was completely dead, which hinted at a battery problem.
We used a voltmeter I was measuring the battery charge. It showed just 35 volts, far below the required 72V for the RV400.
It was clear that the bike wouldn’t start because the battery was too weak.
We managed to get some jumper cables from a neighbour’s car. We connected the bike’s battery to his car battery for a quick boost.
Within 45 minutes, the voltage level up, and the bike started. Make sure that this is just a temporary solution.
If your Revolt RV400’s battery is too low, the bike won’t start. It’s important to regularly check your battery’s health, especially if your bike is too old.
2. Reset the Immobilizer
After the battery issue, we tried starting the bike again, but it still wouldn’t start. That’s when the expert suggested resetting the immobilizer, which is the bike’s security system.
I checked there was a flashing key icon on the display, which usually points to an immobilizer fault.
We followed the instructions to reset the immobilizer by holding down the power button for about 10 seconds.
Once we did that, the key icon stopped blinking, and the bike finally started!
The immobilizer can sometimes stop the RV400 from starting, even if everything else is fine. A quick reset can solve this problem.
3. Check Electrical Connections
Loose wire connections can be another reason for an RV400 not starting. So, suggested to check the electrical wiring.
You have to take off the side panels and check the wiring near the battery. So that don’t have any loose or broken wirings.
If any loose wires are found, make sure to tighten the wires and clean off any corrosion that has built up around the connections.
If the electrical connections are loose or corroded, the bike might not start because the power isn’t flowing correctly.
This is an easy fix that anyone can handle with basic tools.
4. Update Software
An expert also said that sometimes a software glitch can create problems. If your RV400 software is outdated, it may be won’t start.
You have to open the Revolt app on your phone and check for any pending updates. If a new software version waiting to be installed, please do.
You have to follow the steps in the app to install the update. After the update and a quick reboot, the bike felt more responsive.
Just like your phone, the RV400 needs regular software updates to keep running smoothly.
If the bike’s software is out of date, it can create issues with starting and overall performance.
5. Get Professional Help if Needed
We managed to solve the issue ourselves, but sometimes you need an expert.
If you’ve tried everything and your RV400 still won’t start, it’s time to go to a Revolt service centre
Some issues can’t be a quick fix, you need a professional who can check for deeper problems with the battery, motor, or electronics.
Don’t hesitate to get help if your bike is still not working after trying these steps.
Final Thoughts
We were able to start my friend’s Revolt RV400 bike easily.
If your RV400 won’t start, check the battery, immobilizer, and electrical connections, and make sure the software is up to date.
If all else fails, call a professional to fix the problem and ensure that checks and care will help keep your Revolt RV400 running smoothly.
