What to Do If Your Ola S1 Scooter Suddenly Loses Speed

Slow and steady wins the race. Well, not all the time. If you’re riding your Ola S1 scooter and suddenly notice a drop in speed, it can be a bit concerning.

But don’t worry, there are some simple steps you can take to manage the issue and continue enjoying a safe and smooth ride.

Here’s what you need to do if you experience a sudden loss of speed while riding your Ola S1 scooter:

1. Don’t Panic, Just Stay Calm

Take a deep breath and assess the situation calmly.

If you notice anything unusual such as strange noises, vibrations, or dashboard warnings, take note of it.

This will help you figure out what’s wrong.

2. Check the Throttle

Check if the throttle is functioning properly by twisting it to accelerate.

Don’t know which part is the throttle?

It’s on the right handlebar. Simply twist the throttle grip and make note of its response.

If it feels stiff and unresponsive, or there’s a delay in acceleration, there might be a problem with the throttle mechanism.

3. Inspect the Battery Level

We all have those moments when we forget to charge our phones. It happens to the best of us! Well, this is just like that.

Low battery voltage can cause a loss of speed in electric scooters.

So, make sure to check the battery level indicator on the scooter’s dashboard to ensure it has enough charge.

If it’s low, recharge it at the earliest opportunity.

4. Assess Terrain and Riding Conditions

Running uphill can be tiresome and slow. Your scooter feels the same way too!

Your scooter’s speed can also be affected by the terrain and riding conditions.

Uphill climbs, strong headwinds, or riding on rough surfaces can naturally decrease speed.

So, adjust your riding style and expectations accordingly.

5. Check Tire Pressure

Probably, the most overlooked need for a scooter is the tyre pressure.

Proper tyre pressure is essential for optimal scooter performance and speed.

Make sure that your scooter’s tyres are properly inflated to the recommended pressure specified in the user manual.

Low tyre pressure can cause increased rolling resistance and reduced speed.

6. Inspect Brakes

Check out the brake system to make sure that the brakes are not stuck or engaged unintentionally.

Stuck brake callipers or worn brake pads can cause excessive friction, leading to a loss of speed.

Release the brakes fully and test the scooter’s acceleration.

7. Look for Mechanical Issues

If the loss of speed persists, there may be underlying mechanical issues such as motor problems, belt or chain issues, or transmission problems.

Inspect these components for signs of wear, damage, or malfunctions.

And if you find any, you know its time to visit a mechanic!

8. Restart the Scooter

Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary issues with electronic systems.

Turn off the scooter, wait for a few moments, and then restart it.

Test the acceleration and speed to see if the issue persists.

9. Contact Ola Support

If you’re unable to diagnose or resolve the loss of speed on your Ola S1 scooter, you can always reach out to Ola customer support for assistance.

They can provide troubleshooting guidance or arrange for professional servicing if needed.

Final Thoughts

By following these steps, you can effectively address a sudden loss of speed in your Ola S1 scooter and ensure a safe and enjoyable riding experience.

Remember to prioritize safety and proper maintenance to keep your scooter running smoothly.

Happy riding!
