The Delhi government is taking a big leap toward cleaner air and sustainable transport with its exciting Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0! This bold plan is all about speeding up the shift to electric vehicles, cutting down on fossil fuel use, and making eco-friendly travel accessible to everyone.
Packed with incentives for individuals, women drivers, and commercial operators, the policy is designed to be inclusive and forward-thinking. Once the Delhi Cabinet gives it the green light, it’ll power the city’s green journey until March 31, 2030.
Special Incentive for Women
One of the highlights of EV Policy 2.0 is a special subsidy just for women. The first 10,000 with a valid license can grab ₹12,000 per kWh, up to ₹36,000, toward an electric two-wheeler.
This fantastic perk is set to fuel women’s role in Delhi’s green transport wave, keeping eco-friendly rides super affordable and within reach.
General Two-Wheeler Subsidy
Apart from the women-centric benefit, the policy proposes a standard incentive of ₹10,000 per kWh, capped at ₹30,000 per electric two-wheeler for the general public.
Additionally, those scrapping their old fossil-fuel-driven two-wheelers, provided the vehicle is not older than 12 years, can avail an extra ₹10,000. This move is designed to replace older polluting vehicles with cleaner alternatives.
Auto-Rickshaw (L5M Category) Incentives
The auto-rickshaw sector, a major component of Delhi’s public transport system, will also see significant changes. The government plans to offer:
- A purchase incentive of ₹10,000 per kWh, up to ₹45,000 for new electric auto-rickshaws.
- A scrapping incentive of ₹20,000 for existing Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) autos less than 12 years old.
- A replacement incentive of ₹1 lakh for CNG autos completing 10 years during the policy period. However, those availing this benefit will not be eligible for any other scheme under the policy.
Mandatory Shift to E-Autos
To fast-track the EV transition, the policy proposes strict deadlines:
- From August 15, 2025, no new registrations or renewals of CNG auto-rickshaws will be allowed.
- All CNG autos older than 10 years must either be replaced or retrofitted with electric batteries. This aggressive push is intended to phase out polluting vehicles and introduce a cleaner fleet of electric autos on Delhi’s roads.
Policy Timeline
The previous EV policy, which ended on March 31, has been extended for another 15 days. The new EV Policy 2.0 will take effect once the Delhi Cabinet gives its approval.
With targeted incentives for different groups and a plan to phase out fossil fuel vehicles, this policy shows Delhi’s serious dedication to cleaner air and sustainable urban mobility.
