One morning, I wanted to go for a city ride on my Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.
I took it out of the house parking and tried to start it, but it wouldn’t start. I tried several times and tried to get through.
Frustrated, I called a friend who repairs Bajaj Chetak scooters. He guided me over the phone, and I started the scooter within an hour.
In this blog, I share all the steps and tricks I used. By following these tips, you will manage to start your Bajaj Chetak electric scooter if it won’t start.
In the below troubleshooting guide, I will tell you how to diagnose and find a solution to such issues because of which the Bajaj Chetak EV does not start.
Read on, and you’ll feel confident to handle this problem yourself!
Charge of the battery
If you have a depleted battery, your Bajaj Chetak EV will not start. You can check the battery level on the scooter’s display panel.
If your battery is empty or low beyond the minimum level, you need to connect the charger to the scooter.
When you charge, make sure that the charging indicator functions properly. If the charging indicator does not light up, it is a faulty charger.
If the charger does not light, it may also indicate the improper connectivity of the battery.
In this case, you can rectify it at the service station or replace the indicator.
Connections of the Battery
Your Bajaj Chetak EV may not start if the connection is loose or corroded. You can check the corroded terminals if it does not start.
Once I faced this problem. I cleaned the terminals, and the scooter started. I first disconnected the battery, made the terminals clean, and then safely reconnected the battery.
In some cases, issues can also arise from the auxiliary battery in Bajaj Chetak, so it’s worth inspecting it during troubleshooting.
Check the Health of the Battery
Another reason for the Bajaj Chetak EV not starting could be the voltage issue.
Your battery has to be within the manufacturer’s voltage limit. If the voltage is low, you need to replace the battery.
If the battery falls within the warranty period in such a case, you can replace it without paying any money.
Based on your use, your battery may turn old. It depends on how much charge you do based on the distance of the drive.
Generally, the battery lasts up to 3 years. If it is old, it may not charge efficiently. In such a case, you have the replacement option.
Power Button
You must safely press the power button. Hold it for some time to ignite the scooter.
If you do not find the response after some time, the power button is faulty.
The solution is to replace the power button at the Bajaj Chetak EV service station.
The Issue with the Key Fob
The key fob is used to unlock the scooter without inserting the physical key of the Bajaj Chetak EV.
It also has a button to open the seat and glove box compartments.
If the key fob’s battery is dead, your scooter may fail to recognise the key and the scooter may not start.
Also, you need to be in the required range for the key fob to work.
Check the Display Panel
The display panel will display codes and messages that show the specific problems.
You will have to refer to the user manual to know the meaning of these messages or codes.
You also need to check the sensor. See that the display panel is functioning properly.
If the display is unresponsive or blank, you need to check either the display or the main control unit of the scooter.
Check the Brake Lever
Once my Bajaj Chetak EV did not start. My neighbour suggested that I check the brake lever.
You will have to hold the brake lever to start the scooter. Check that the sensor associated works properly otherwise, you will not know.
See that the brake level sensors function in a proper way. If the sensor is faulty, the scooter may not recognise the engaged brakes.
Fuse Issue
Your Bajaj Chetak EV may not start if the fuse is blown out.
In this case, you will have to check the fuse box of the scooter.
You can replace the faulty fuse at a service station.
Final Thoughts
I being a user of Bajaj Chetak EV have personally faced many of the above issues. This prevented the start of the scooter.
However, I have been able to start with the guidance mentioned above.
I hope the blog will prove to be useful to you for your Bajaj Chetak EV start issues.
