A few months ago, I faced a problem with my Bajaj Chetak electric scooter. One morning, it wouldn’t start, and I quickly realized the issue was with the auxiliary battery.
However, I did not know how to open the auxiliary battery in the Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.
I called to customer support executive and he said that if I have to open the battery, I need to follow certain guidelines.
It took me some time to figure out how to access it, but I eventually got it sorted out.
Today, I want to share that experience with you and show you how to open the auxiliary battery in your Bajaj Chetak electric scooter.
Collect Important Tools
Upon conversation, he told me to have the tools and safety equipment.
Some of the tools he told me are screwdrivers, wrenches, insulated gloves, safety goggles and a dry and clean workplace.
Turn Off The Scooter
You need to turn the scooter off. It is good if you take out the key from the ignition.
Because of this, you will stop any type of connection by accident.
Disconnect The Principal Battery
You will have to disconnect the main battery after tracing it.
By this, you will avoid the short circuit by chance or any shock.
The battery expert told me that I would have to do this for safety.
Trace The Chamber Of Auxiliary Battery
The expert told me that after this, I would have to trace the chamber of the auxiliary battery. This will be under the seat of Bajaj Chetak EV in a particular chamber.
This chamber or compartment is specially made for the auxiliary battery. With the screwdriver or wrench, you will have to remove the seat.
Lift the seat with care to access the battery auxiliary battery chamber. It is under the seat.
You will find a box-shaped structure. This is the place where you find the auxiliary battery.
Open The Battery Chamber
With a screwdriver and wrench, you will have to open the battery chamber. You will have to remove the bolts and screws.
Keep these bolts and screws in a safe place. You will need them to reassemble the chamber.
After this, you will have to open up the cover. Lift it gently to avoid the connection damage.
Disconnect The Terminals
After you find the battery, disconnect the terminals. First disconnects the negative terminal. This will prevent any short circuit.
Once the above step is done, disconnect the positive terminal. If there is any added bracket or strap, remove these with proper tools. The expert said that I would have to see this thing.
He told me that some batteries can have extra connectivity like brackets or straps.
After the above step is done, remove the auxiliary battery from the chamber. Be careful because of its weight to prevent any damage.
You will have to take out the battery carefully.
Check & Place The Battery
After removing the battery, check things like leakage, damage or corrosion. If the battery of Bajaj Chetak is damaged, you will have to replace it.
After the above step is done, clean the chamber from dust or debris.
Now you can place the repaired or the new battery in the compartment. Be careful so that it sits safely in the chamber.
Now connect the positive terminal first. After this, connect the negative terminal.
Cover & Seat Reattachment
Now put the cover back and make the necessary connections. Fit the screws and bolts that you removed previously. Fasten these tightly.
Now you will have to reattach the seat. Use the screwdriver and wrench to safely fit it.
Connect The Main Battery Again
Connect the main battery again. This was disconnected by you at the beginning. Ensure that the connections are safe.
Turn your Bajaj KV on
Turn your Bajaj KV on by inserting the key. See that the scooter is operating properly. Check if there is any error message. Also, check whether there is any warning light still reflecting.
Make sure you process in a ventilated area.
